Brightspace Support for Students

April 27, 2021
Brightspace is an essential tool for students, which is why it’s important that they can access support when they need it. The following resources can help students navigate Brightspace and access help for problems:
  • LMS Help at Algonquin College (Student Survival Guide):  This page has videos and instructions to help students with things like submitting assignments, taking quizzes, and more. It’s a handy resource when they’re not sure how to do a specific task. Students can access it in the Student Survival Guide, or directly from Brightspace by clicking Help > LMS Help at Algonquin College.
  • Brightspace Essentials course: This Brightspace course is a great primer for students who are just starting out with the tool. They navigate the course in Brightspace and find out about all the key elements of a course. Students who successfully complete the course receive an award for completion on Brightspace. Students can access this resource in Brightspace by clicking Help > Brightspace Essentials in the navigation bar. They can then self-enroll in the course.
  • Online Brightspace Workshops: At the start of each semester, the Student Learning Centre (SLC) offers free Digital Skills workshops to help students familiarize themselves with online college learning tools, such as Brightspace, Live@AC, and Zoom. There are also other free workshops offered throughout the semester! Students can register online on the SLC Workshops page.
  • Online Computer Coaching: The SLC offers free coaching in several subjects, including computers. The computer coach can help with specific problems with Brightspace or other tools such as Live@AC. Student can drop-in to an online session any time during the scheduled coaching period, which they can find on the Coaching Lab web page.
  • Computer Coaching in Your Classroom: At the request of a faculty member, the SLC computer coach can give an orientation to Brightspace during their class time. The SLC can work with you to plan what you would like to be covered. If you are interested in arranging Computer Coaching in Your Classroom, contact the SLC at slc@algonquincollege.com.
The resources above can help your students feel more comfortable using Brightspace so they can focus on learning course material. If students have problems with their Brightspace account (network ID), they should contact ITS.
