Algonquin College one of the top Ontario colleges for student satisfaction

September 25, 2019

Algonquin College has seen consistent improvement in overall student satisfaction levels, according to Provincial Key Performance Indicator (KPI) results released today across the province.

Student, graduate and employer feedback placed Algonquin at the top of the scale among large Ontario colleges – with a top-three ranking in six of nine categories.

The annual survey results, which were released by Colleges Ontario earlier today, show overall student satisfaction rising three per cent to 76.2 per cent, ranking Algonquin College second among large colleges in Ontario – and above the Ontario college system average.

Some of the highlights for Algonquin College include:

  • Algonquin’s graduate satisfaction rate increased by one per cent – placing above the college-system average by just over one per cent and ranking second among large colleges.
  • Student satisfaction with the quality of services was almost three per cent above the college-system average, ranking second among large colleges.
  • Overall, Algonquin had a top-three ranking among large colleges in six categories, including program relevance, program quality and employer satisfaction.
  • In employer satisfaction, Algonquin placed above the system average by almost two per cent, ranking third among large colleges.

Historically, Algonquin has been a leader among Ontario’s large colleges in overall student satisfaction, receiving KPI scores almost exclusively above the provincial average since 2013.

“I want to thank our learners and alumni for another strong report card, which once again shows that Algonquin College is an education leader in this province,” said Claude Brulé, President and CEO, Algonquin College. “We take pride in consistently scoring high marks for student satisfaction but our goal is continuous improvement. That’s why new initiatives like our 14-week term model and our Learner-driven Plan aim to enrich and personalize the Algonquin College experience.”

All 24 of Ontario’s public-sector colleges participate annually in the Colleges Ontario KPI survey program, which entails providing a mandatory satisfaction survey to all enrolled students. The surveys measure outcomes such as students' satisfaction with their courses, learning outcomes, facilities, and student services. Additionally, recent alumni are surveyed regarding their satisfaction as graduates and their employment status post-graduation. Finally, employers are surveyed to measure their satisfaction with the Ontario college graduates they hired. The results are then analyzed by an independent research company.
