Mamidosewin Student Support Showcase on October 9

October 4, 2019
The Mamidosewin Centre is hosting a Student Support Showcase on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 12 p.m. which will bring together an expert panel of supports from various service areas across the Ottawa Campus for an interactive Q&A session to inform students about the social, academic, and personal supports available to them on campus.

Many Indigenous learners go home for the Thanksgiving break and have conversations with their families and close friends. Some may contemplate staying home and withdrawing because they may feel out of place, are uninformed about supports, and/or are unsure about how to engage other learners and supports on campus. The Student Support Showcase aims to ensure these learners are aware of all the tools available to help them succeed at Algonquin College.

The event is taking place in the Mamidosewin Centre, located in Room E-122 of the Student Commons Building. Supports will describe who they are and what their area does for students, followed by a Q&A period for learners to inquire about specific supports to the panel. The session will be moderated by Indigenous Pathfinder, Gregory Phillips. After a brief Q&A session, participants along with supports are invited to chat over snacks and beverages to get to know each other and to schedule more in-depth one-on-one sessions.
