Algonquin signs Letter of Intent with Mohawk College to help ‘Build Back Better'

October 2, 2020

Algonquin College has signed a letter of intent with Mohawk College of Applied Arts and Technology to participate in the Canadian Colleges for a Resilient Recovery (CCRR), a pan-Canadian coalition of colleges working to ‘Build Back Better’ from the pandemic.

CCRR founding member colleges will champion projects across Canada that respond to the recommendations of the Task Force for a Resilient Recovery. These initiatives include rapidly training workers to meet the skills gaps for a climate resilient economy, reviving and growing Canadian businesses through applied research solutions in clean tech, building sciences, and life sciences, and serving as demonstration sites – ‘living labs’ – for climate change solutions and low carbon technologies. Projects would also centre around equity, diversity and inclusion, and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

“Algonquin College, along with colleges across Canada, serve as regional economic development engines that are uniquely positioned to support a resilient recovery from the pandemic. We are excited at the prospect of this partnership with our colleagues at Mohawk College,” said President Claude Brulé. “Opportunities to help build a climate resilient economy will grow exponentially into the future, and this letter of intent enhances our commitment to learners to help pursue their goals in vital job sectors. The additional focus on equity, inclusion and reconciliation aligns with a number of the College’s key priorities.”

The signed letter of intent with Mohawk College marks a first step in the process. A definitive agreement will follow once the details of the relationship have been fully negotiated.
