Interactive Design students showcase final projects

"Despite significant challenges this semester, all teams produced impressive projects," professor Jed Looker said after the showcase in T102 on Jan. 10. “The primary objective of the course was to give students the opportunity to apply their design skills to real projects, with real clients."
Robert Decher, a marketing and communications advisor at Accurate Creative, got involved with the Algonquin opportunity for the first time this year. He said he was very impressed with the process and the students at Algonquin, who were commissioned to rejuvenate the website for IoT613, the Internet of Things Ottawa conference site. Decher is on the board for IoT613.
The students, he said, helped take the site “to the next level.” And, he added, there was a lot of back and forth that helped the creative process.
“They are pushing me and I am pushing them and we’re growing it together,” he explained.
Decher gave the AC students in his group high marks and said he hopes the website they created will go live next week.
“They get it,” he said. “They were excited about it and they came up with ideas — super ambitious and organized.”
He also urged other community partners to get involved in the program, not only for the excellent end products, but as a way to support such an innovative, community-based program.
“I would sing the praises of the teachers who are being so innovative,” he said. “It’s an opportunity to give back to the community and be a mentor to students."
