Upgrade to Blackboard Server Environment - August 2015

August 19, 2015
Further to the previous May 27 and June 9 communiques here is an update for the Blackboard upgrade program.

The Blackboard system is undergoing upgrades that will provide an enhanced, up-to-date server environment for the Fall 2015 semester.

When Will the Upgraded System Be Available?

On August 28 at noon.

What Will Happen As a Result of the Upgrade?

1) Migration of course content from three semesters (Fall 2014, Winter 2015 and Spring 2015) into the new Blackboard environment will occur.

At 12 noon on August 28, when you log into blackboard.algonquincollege.com, you will only see 14F (Fall 2014), 15W (Winter 2015), 15S (Spring 2015), 15X (2015 development) and Master courses (e.g. 15M, 14M).

Please be advised that due to 15S being an active semester, 15S (Spring 2015) semester courses will be migrated to the new environment over the weekend of August 29th

2) Courses from semesters before Fall 2014 will no longer reside in the new Blackboard environment; they will be archived.  However, this archived course content will be available upon request by contacting Blackboard Support at X2501 or by email at bbhelp@algonquincollege.com.

Course shells for 15F (Fall 2015) will be available.

3) A version update will occur which includes feature enhancements. More information about these features will be provided in the next few weeks.  But three of the main enhancements are:

a) Addition of a Content Management system
b) Addition of a Portfolio system.
c) A new “student view” button.

For more details, review the summary of these enhancements here.

What Does this Mean for Faculty?

As of 9 am on August 19th, you will have access to the new environment (https://blackboard2015.algonquincollege.com) to perform any course export/ imports from previous semester courses dating back to Fall 2014.

What If Faculty Need Access to Course Content from Before Fall 2014?

Access to older course content will be possible upon request to Blackboard Support.

If you have any questions, please contact Blackboard Support at X-2501 or send an email to bbhelp@algonquincollege.com.
