Event Management celebrates 25 years

May 14, 2017
On Saturday night, AC's Centre for Construction Excellence was home to a grand celebration for the Event Management program's 25th anniversary.

Hosted by Aliya Jasmine of NBC, the gala was attended by graduates, current students, faculty and many suppliers and supporters, and also marked the program's incredible philanthropic achievement — raising $1 million for the Children's Wish Foundation. Over time, funds raised by the students had helped grant 99 children's wishes. On Saturday night, in collaboration with the Children's Wish Foundation, they granted their 100th — announcing a package of Ottawa Senators' gear for one of the team's biggest fans.

In recognition of their long-standing contributions to our community, Kathyrn Leroux, Chair of the Algonquin College Board of Governors, also announced that the program would be the June 2017 recipient of the Board's Changemaker award. Brian Henry, CEO of Quality Entertainment and long-time supporter of the College, was announced as the recipient of an Honorary Diploma. The certificate will be presented at Spring Convocation in June.

Also in attendance at Saturday's gala were Mayor Jim Watson, who declared May 13 "to be the official Algonquin College Event Management Day throughout Ottawa," and MP Anita Vandenbeld.
