Get your hands dirty – Time to get gardening!

May 19, 2017
Are you a gardener? Do you love fresh herbs and vegetables? There are many initiatives underway at the Ottawa campus to connect you with fresh, healthy food. Check out these three!

Horticultural Industries Program Farm Store
The farm store is run 12-1 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays at M building. In the Spring, plant seedlings, perennials and annuals are available. These are perfect to get a quick start in your garden at home, or in a planter on a balcony. Produce will become available as the summer progresses.

Community Garden
A small, employee-run community garden is located adjacent to the Students’ Association athletic field. To be involved in growing vegetables to share, contact: Karen Petrie. (petriek@algonquincollege.com)

Herb Garden
For those who prefer eating fresh herbs and vegetables that are already professionally cooked to perfection, there are raised beds located in the courtyard on the South side of Student Commons (E Building) and D Building that will soon be growing herbs and vegetables. Students in the Culinary Arts programs will incorporate this produce into Restaurant International meals in June, as well as at the start of the 2017-2018 academic year.
