AC’s Apprenticeship Program receives award for outstanding contribution

June 13, 2017
The Ontario College of Trades, a professional body that regulates and promotes the skilled trades, yesterday presented Algonquin College’s apprenticeship program with the Chair’s Award of Excellence.

Shaun Barr, Algonquin’s Academic Chair of Construction Trades and Building Systems, attended the award ceremonies, held in London, Ontario.

“It is with great pride that I accept this award on behalf of the amazing, dedicated faculty and support staff from across the College that make Apprenticeship so successful at Algonquin," said Barr on Monday evening. "They are a very passionate group and comments from the apprentices themselves endorse that statement. I am proud to work alongside such remarkable people.”

The Chair’s Award of Excellence honours individuals or organizations that have made an outstanding contribution to skilled trades and apprenticeship training in Ontario.

The Ontario College of Trades selected Algonquin’s apprenticeship program “for its continued support towards the inclusion of underrepresented groups, for encouraging the participation of people with disabilities and for hosting annual women in the trades events.”
