Brightspace, designed by the Kitchener-based firm Desire2Learn, is the College’s latest move into the future of digital learning. Its hallmark is ease of use: the LMS provides an essential resource that allows faculty to concentrate on teaching and enhances the College experience for learners.

The Calendar tool for faculty, for instance, provides a simple but essential means of keeping learners aware of events in their courses. The video tutorial illustrates how easy creating an event in Brightspace can be.

The Classlist tool lets faculty contact learners directly via email or instant messages to highlight important due dates, for instance, or discuss their progress. Using Assignments, faculty can create an assignments submission folder, grade submissions inside the tool and provide feedback. 

With the Survey tool, faculty have a practical means of creating a survey and getting feedback from learners. An Awards tool makes it possible to create badges and recognize learners’ accomplishments.

There are a number of Groups & Discussion tools. Faculty eager to enhance collaboration in their courses can use the Discussion tool to create forums and topics. The Private Discussions tool creates a space for learners to journal in restricted discussion areas. Faculty can judge the journal entries as they are completed or over time.
