LMS Weekly Update
May 16, 2018

Brightspace training is underway at Algonquin College campuses in Ottawa, Pembroke and Perth as faculty make the transition to the new Learning Management System (LMS) created by D2L of Kitchener, ON.
The sessions are an important component of a training road map created by D2L and the College’s Learning and Teaching Services (LTS) team to ensure users are successful with Brightspace and part of a seamless transition from Blackboard and Canvas.
As of May 15, 34 training sessions have been held since mid-April and the total number of individuals trained, including faculty, staff and facilitators, is 423. Seventeen per cent of faculty have attended, including 32 per cent of full-time faculty and 11 per cent of part-time faculty.
Here are some of the responses from participants in the training sessions.
  • Thanks to the Brightspace team for putting this training session together. It was very informative and the Help Centre in C226 will be a great resource.
  • The instructors covered all main aspects which I will need during this training session. It seems that having professors driving these sessions and requirements for development is having great effects and success, since the main functions I will need and would request have either been done and are already available or are in the process of being developed and made available.
  • It was excellent - obviously, a lot to pack into three hours, but the trainers did a great job synthesizing the material for us, and making it understandable and enjoyable. With more hands-on experience, this will become increasingly less intimidating. Thank you so much for this delightful training experience.
  • I thought the training was well-paced and informative. I'm glad I took the training because there is some functionality that I will use but would never had known about if I hadn't attended. Thank you!
Brightspace will be the only LMS in use at the College as of September 5, 2018.
Anyone wishing to book a training session can do so through LTS in C226, or online here. Additional training and support is also available through LTS.
